IMPORTANT INTERCESSION UPDATE: Dear Parents, our 2023-2024 District calendar includes intercession days strategically placed throughout the school year to lessen instructional gaps. These periods support and improve student academics by offering instruction tailored to students' individual needs. Intercessions will be well-planned, targeted learning opportunities for students. We will enter Intercession on October 5-6, 2023. Please expect an invitation to be sent home this week if your child(ren) must attend. Great job to our middle school football team for the 24-0 victory over Bowman yesterday! AFMS will play at Whale Branch Middle School next Wednesday in Seabrook, SC. Families and community, please come out to support our Tigers!
Allendale County School District wants to pay tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11. We honored the brave souls who served at ground zero and the tragic lives lost in the attacks with a memorial ceremony. Superintendent Dr. Cave, Chief Wiggins, and Cadet Lokeya Robinson all gave speeches and laid wreaths in tribute to 9/11. Chief Wiggins stated 9/11 is not just a day in history. There were real consequences and some people still continue to suffer from health issues caused by working at ground zero. As it is the 22nd anniversary of 9/11, it is important that we "never forget!"
9th - 12th graders there is an exciting opportunity for you, the "I Have a Dream" 60th Anniversary Student Writing Contest. You have been invited to stand at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, DC, in his “symbolic shadow,” and give your own speech highlighting your American dream for our shared future. Please write that speech as you would give it, highlighting how we can follow Dr. King’s exhortation to “walk together” to achieve the goals you outline.

In conjunction with the Emergency Readiness Team, Allendale County School District will reopen on Friday, September 1, 2023. All schools will follow their normal operating hours.
The football game against Blackville-Hilda High School will be played as scheduled.
Please be reminded that schools are closed on September 4, 2023, in recognition of Labor Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, for all staff and students.

With school back in full swing, let's take a look back on the students' first day! Teachers and staff greeted students with eagerness as they walked through the door and helped guide them throughout the day. Even though we have settled in, it's important to keep the same momentum and energy for the entire year!
Dear Parents and Guardians, Due to the potential impact of Hurricane Idalia and the advisement of the Emergency Readiness Team, Allendale County School District has made a decision regarding plans for the remainder of the week. As previously stated, today will be a half day for both staff and students with the following schedule:
· Allendale Fairfax Elementary School - 12:30 p.m.
· Allendale Fairfax Middle School - 1:15 p.m.
· Allendale Fairfax High School - 1:16 p.m.
According to our Emergency Readiness Team and the most recent weather updates, Hurricane Idalia may still have strong winds and heavy rain as it arrives in South Carolina this evening which could affect our area into early Thursday morning.
Therefore, no students or staff will report to campus on Thursday, August 31, 2023. All athletic events, after-school programs, and extracurricular activities on Wednesday after 12 p.m. and Thursday, August 31, 2023, are canceled or rescheduled. Once we have determined a schedule regarding Friday, September 1, 2023, we will notify you immediately.
This was a difficult decision to make as we understand that these sudden changes may be an inconvenience, but we prioritize the safety of our staff and students. The weather can be unpredictable so we will continue to monitor the storm with the assistance of our Emergency Readiness team. We appreciate their support in helping us make informed decisions in these emergency situations. In the meantime, please continue to monitor local news stations and our social media. Please be cautious and take measures to protect yourself and your family from the possible effects of the storm.
Friday's game against the Hampton Hurricanes was a tough loss but we're determined to win this Friday at our away game in Blackville.

Allendale County Schools will have an early dismissal day on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. Please see schedule below:
Allendale Fairfax Elementary School - 12:30 p.m.
Allendale Fairfax Middle School - 1:15 p.m.
Allendale Fairfax High School - 1:16 p.m.
However, we will continue to monitor the weather throughout the evening and early morning. If there is a change that would adversely affect this decision, you will be notified in a timely manner.

The Meet and Greet scheduled for Thursday, August 31, 2023, will be rescheduled for a later date and time.
Last night was the first board meeting for the 2023-2024 school year. The meeting began with a flag ceremony from Allendale-Fairfax High School JROTC and greetings from District Administrator Angela Jacobs. Angela Grant gave an overview of the year's budget and Dr. Johnnie Miller gave an update on the curriculum. Board Members Hazel Perry, Katrina Youmans, Catherine Russell, and Chasity Meyers were all in attendance.
