Parents and Guardians, for clarification our students will be in school during the Solar Eclipse. Our teachers have coordinated learning activities in honor of this celestial event. If a teacher chooses to take their class outside for the eclipse, appropriate safety glasses will be distributed. We will continue to extend learning opportunities of the highest quality while ensuring our students are safe at all times.

Let's honor our Assistant Principals Anderson, Brandyburg, McCullough, Priester, and Rogers during National Assistant Principals Week! We appreciate all that you do for our schools!

Don't forget that the meeting for the parents of students going to the 5th grade is on April 10th at 5:30pm in the AFES Main Cafeteria. Come out so that we can help you make the transition from elementary to middle school easy.

The Steel Drum Band gave a preview show at our March Board/Community Meeting. The group of elementary students is led by Kimberly Roberts and her assistant, Tiffany Ambroise. This program is part of our arts integration initiative and is funded by grants. Recently, we were awarded the Hootie and the Blowfish Grant sponsored by the Central Carolina Community Foundation. This donation will allow the program to update their equipment and invite additional members. We can't wait to see their next performance in April!

During last night's Board/Community Meeting, we reviewed updates from the Superintendent and Finance Department, but we also looked towards the future. We discussed a purchasing policy, employee incentives, and budget planning.

Today, our AFHS Cosmetology Students held a salon clinic. The cosmetology students did knotless braids, silk presses, and wig installs under the supervision of of a licensed professional, Mrs. Williams. They offer a variety of services including facials and nails for an affordable price. Don't miss out on their next session which will be on April 13th from 9AM-1PM.

As we move towards the fourth quarter, we want to ensure that no student is left behind. During Intersession, our students have the opportunity to do course, credit, and or attendance recovery to get back on track. Here's day one of Intersession featuring some of our middle school students.

We are grateful that WJBF interviewed our Superintendent, Dr. Vallerie Cave, so that we could tell our story firsthand. Read below:

Please be reminded that tonight at 6:00 PM we will be having our Monthly Board/Community Meeting in the AFES Gym. In addition to updates from the Superintendent and Finance Department, we will also be reviewing Purchasing Policy. There will be a special performance by the Steel Drum Band, so don't miss out!

Our commitment to our students never ends. During Professional Development, our teachers worked on improving and coordinating lesson plans to better suit our students. We can't wait to implement our new changes after Spring Break!
